safeTALK – Tell Ask Listen Keepsafe

Imagine a suicide-safer community where people were alterted ahead of time, to the signs that a person may be considering suicide. While most people at risk of suicide signal their distress and invite help, often intervention opportunities are overlooked. safeTALK aims to equip participants with the skills to recognise and respond to situation in which thoughts of suicide may be present.

Lifeline Mid Coast is hosting a safeTALK presentation in Johns River on Thursday August 9 at the Johns River Community Hall. The program will be presented by Lee-Ann Ford who is the Life Matters co-ordinator at Lifeline Mid Coast NSW.  Lee-Ann first became involved with Lifeline in 1990 following the death by suicide of her youngest brother and has been working with the organisation ever since. She now conducts suicide intervention training as a Master Trainer with LivingWorks Education.

Improved suicide alterness may be applied in many settings, with family, friends, co-workers and in more formal helping relationships. safeTALK teaches participants the basic “TALK” steps, together with skills for further suicide first aid help, with the emphasis on fulfilling the vital link with community resources, rather than full engagement in a suicide first aid intervention.

The safeTALK program is $35 and runs for half a day with discounts available to groups of five or more. Lifeline Mid Coast encourages individuals and business to look at gaining skills through safeTALK program, in order to further connect persons at risk with further help.

You can choose to eat in or take your purchase away with you with fast and efficient personal service.

As with our Gourmet Barbecue, all proceeds from sale of food and drinks goes back into the Hall and Reserve.
